Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line one 9×13-inch pan and one 8-inch round pan.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
- Mix in vanilla extract and pink food coloring until desired shade is reached.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Cut the round cake in half and trim the rectangular cake to form a heart shape. Assemble into a heart.
- Beat frosting ingredients until smooth and fluffy. Tint frosting pink.
- Frost the entire cake smoothly and decorate with a pink bow and embellishments.

- Tip: If you don’t have a heart-shaped pan, carve from a square cake or use the two-layer method described.
