This comforting bake features lightly steamed broccoli, melted cheddar, a creamy mushroom soup or white sauce, and a tangy sour cream finish, all topped with a buttery crumb. Gluten-free-friendly and easy to customize, it bakes until bubbly and golden—perfect for Easter, Thanksgiving, or cozy family dinners. Make ahead and reheat gently for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets (lightly steamed)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cream of mushroom soup (or homemade white sauce)
  • ½ cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • ½ small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup crushed gluten-free crackers or breadcrumbs
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a medium baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant and translucent.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, sautéed onion and garlic, cheddar cheese, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In a small bowl, mix crushed crackers or breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle over the top.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream for a lighter option.
  • Use homemade white sauce instead of canned soup for a gluten-free, creamier texture.
  • For extra crunch, add a pinch of paprika or dried thyme to the crumb topping.
  • To make this dairy-free, use lactose-free cheese and dairy-free sour cream with gluten-free crackers.
