Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  6. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the swirl.
  7. Roll dough into 1 ½-inch balls, flatten slightly, and use a knife or spoon to swirl a bit of the cinnamon mixture on top.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are just golden but centers are still soft.
  9. Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  10. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make a smooth glaze. Drizzle over cooled cookies for that signature cinnamon roll finish.
